The study of informality relies heavily on empirical evidence, yet reliable and comparable data remain a major challenge. Thisworkshop explores the empirical foundations of informality research, bringing together scholars and practitioners working with surveys, administrative records, firm-level datasets, and innovative measurement approaches. By comparing data sources and methodologies across countries and regions, the workshop aims to strengthen the analytical and policy relevance of informalityresearch and foster collaboration within the INSEAI network.
